The twelve questions an AI use policy has to answer
July 17, 2026
What an insurer, auditor or client reads for in an AI use policy: twelve questions that test any draft, template-started or written from scratch, before someone asks to see it.
Industries · Yacht Sales Brokers and Dealers
A brokerage runs on descriptions other people rely on. The spec sheet becomes the listing, the listing becomes the expectation, and the expectation walks down the dock at the sea trial with a surveyor beside it. AI is already in that chain: YachtWorld and YATCO will draft your listings now, the pricing tool hands you a valuation band, and a chatbot can answer the Saturday-night enquiry before your competitor wakes up. Each of these is useful, and each one publishes words in your name that you did not write.

The pressures on this page arrive before anyone says AI. The enquiry that came in at 9pm on Saturday has gone cold by Monday. The listing that took hours per boat now writes itself, sometimes wrongly. The vendor still wants 2021's price, the deal that survived the mandate and the marketing can still die at survey, and a collapsed sale converts weeks of commission-only effort to zero revenue. Under it all sits a filing cabinet holding other people's money, passports and proof-of-funds letters, in a trade with no statutory licence around any of it.
Boats Group, the company behind YachtWorld and Boat Trader, launched its AI listing builder on 11 June 2025 and an AI market evaluation tool with automatic pricing bands six days later, and YATCO's assistant now drafts and translates superyacht listings inside its MLS. Australian brokers cross-list on both, so the AI decision was made inside the platforms the trade already pays for.
A listing is a representation in trade or commerce whoever drafted it, and penalties for false or misleading representations now run to the greater of $100 million, three times the benefit, or 30 percent of adjusted turnover after the March 2026 amendment. The adjacent trade has already run the experiment: a real estate listing generated with ChatGPT advertised schools that did not exist.
The EU's new anti-money-laundering regulation makes traders in luxury goods, yachts included, obliged entities from 10 July 2027, with an EU-wide €10,000 cash cap and transaction reporting for watercraft sales at €7,500,000 and above. An Australian house selling into the European market inherits that perimeter with the deal.

A regional industry member association was running a static HTML website carrying close to fifteen years of content. Southern Sky AI rebuilt it as a platform of 2,040 indexable pages, 1,645 migrated articles, a 146-listing member and partner directory, and 47 events, with structured schema.org data on every page and an llms.txt file. The site now handles over a million requests a month, is cited as a source in ChatGPT, and is read live by AI assistants every day, and in one recent day, ChatGPT's crawler alone read more than 9,400 pages.

The tools arrived inside the platforms the trade already pays for, through the listing stack rather than through a decision, and dealer-side CRMs now sell AI lead response layered over marketplace enquiries. These are the same workflows run deliberately, with a named person between the machine and the client.
Listing drafting with a verification gate.
AI drafts the listing from the spec sheet, survey and photos, turning hours per boat into minutes, and the listing broker checks every factual claim against the source documents and the actual vessel before syndication: engine hours, service history, stabilisers, survey status. Listings go out fast, with nothing in them you cannot evidence when a buyer's lawyer asks.
After-hours enquiry handling with morning review.
An AI assistant answers portal and website enquiries around the clock, qualifies budget and timeframe, books viewings, and stays inside the published listing on condition, history and price. The sales principal reads the conversation log each morning before any human follow-up, so the 9pm Saturday buyer is warm on Monday and you know what was said in your name.
Vendor pricing packs, broker-owned.
AI assembles the comparable-sales evidence and the platform's price band in minutes rather than an evening, and the broker validates the comparables and presents the appraisal as their own judgement, with the AI band as one input. Faster, better-evidenced mandate conversations, and your opinion stays yours.
Deal-file and settlement tracking.
AI populates contract packs from the accepted offer and tracks the condition deadlines: deposit, sea trial, survey, finance, insurance. The principal verifies every populated field before signature requests go out, and settlement funds move only on human instruction. Fewer deals lost to administrative drift in the window where commission is won or lost.
Buyer verification packs for high-value and export sales.
AI assembles the identity, source-of-funds and sanctions-screening checklist to the standard the EU rules will ask of yacht traders from July 2027, and a nominated principal reviews and approves the pack before acceptance. The international deal proceeds without the bank, the flag state or the insurer stalling it.
Multilingual listings with bilingual sign-off.
The platform's translation runs for export-market reach, and a person who reads the language, or the buyer's own broker, confirms the legally significant terms before publication. Export-market reach without export-market misdescription.
These are the workflows the prompt library and the training day stand up, under the standard the AI use policy, approved-tools register and verification checkpoints set.
Where to start
The platforms made the AI decision for the trade in mid-2025. The consumer-law penalty ceiling doubled in March 2026. Europe pulls yacht traders inside its AML perimeter from July 2027, and the privacy exemption most small brokerages sit under is scheduled to close. A one-page written position, which tools the brokerage uses, who checks what before it leaves the office, where client money and client data sit, answers the buyer, the underwriter and the regulator with the same document.
Read your position in about five minutes. Twenty plain questions about how the brokerage runs, and it reads back the kinds of AI risk as they reach your business, the rules that already apply to you, the cost of leaving that use unmanaged, and the moves that matter most, ranked from the top.
The AI use policy, approved-tools register, verification checkpoints and training pathway a principal can put in front of a buyer's lawyer, a PI insurer or the BIA, sized for a firm where the principal is also the compliance department. The training day fits the whole sales floor between show seasons, and BIA accreditation's professional development requirement is its natural frame. USD $690 founding, then USD $990.
The outputs are governance artefacts, drafted for review and adoption inside your own organisation. Where legal advice is needed, it belongs with qualified counsel. Legal advice on a disputed sale stays with lawyers. AML program certification for EU-obliged entities belongs with specialist AML counsel; Southern Sky AI builds the operating discipline underneath it.

A year ago, leaders asked whether they should be using AI. Now they ask how exposed they are to what their teams are already doing. That shift is a governance question, even when nobody uses the word.
